My homemade and healthy Thousand Island Dressing has been a quiet knockout on social media. It remains one of my most-shared pins on Pinterest. I'm always pleasantly surprised when one of my older recipes keeps getting shared. If you've ever wondered how to make healthy thousand island dressing, you'll be pleasantly surprised it's super easy and way tastier than some low-fat options on the shelves.

Healthy Thousand Island Dressing (1)

Homemade healthy salad dresssings

Look, I feel like we've all been through it when we first started out on our wellness journeys. There's certain products on the shelves that advertise themselves as FAT FREE or even worse ZERO CALORIE salad dressings. I've bought them, and I feel like most people have tried them if they've been on WW. Not only are they expensive, they tend to be an acquired taste to put it lightly. I am not a fan.

This dressing is the real deal. I'd stake my reputation on it. It's thick, creamy, yet amazingly low in points... meaning zero. This is a zero point thousand island. Not only is this a low calorie thousand island that's zero points, it's zero points for 1/4 cup. Who uses 1 tablespoon for a salad?

Want some other tasty low point salad dressings? I have a zero point ranch (1/4 cup) that's approved by ranch snobs everywhere in my ebook. There's even a 2 smart point bleu cheese dressing. My West coast blogging buddy, Geri from Lite Cravings, has an amazing Caesar dressing.

This homemade thousand island couldn't be easier.

Using mostly ingredients anybody on WW has in their home, this recipe comes together in a snap. Simply mix all the ingredients in a large bowl. I personally think this recipe is better the next day, but you can serve this immediately.

Here are answers to common questions I get about the ingredients:

  • Do I use sugar free ketchup? No. I use Heinz. Feel free to use what you like.
  • What Greek yogurt do I use? fa*ge, always.
  • I'm allergic to almond milk or I can't find cashew milk. Can I substitute with a different milk? Sure. I'm not going to cyber bully you or be mad if you substitute.
  • Where do you find no sugar relish? I buy the store brand one. If you can't find sugar free relish, chop up a bunch of pickles. I do it all the time. It's slightly not the same, but very tasty.
  • How much does this make? This makes a lot. 2 1/4 cups. You can cut this in half, but 13 is not divisible by 2. I'm saying this because the WW app will not acknowledge 7.5 servings. Don't panic if you cut it in half and the app defaults to one point.
  • How long does this last? I'm not a food safety expert. I keep it for about a week. I've known people who keep it for as long as the Greek yogurt is good. Then again, I've seen some strange things on the internet. Use your judgment and give it a sniff test.
  • What can I make with this besides salad? Well funny you should ask...

How to use the dressing

Sure, this healthy thousand island is amazing on salads. People all over Instagram make a salad with a chopped up cooked burger patty and cheese with his and call it a Big Mac Salad. Look it up, it's pretty great. However, I've got my own favorites you can find right here on my blog.

Your recipes sound great. I’m a retired Home Ec teacher, and I’m on WW now . My husband and I are both trying to lose weight so I would like to be notified when you have a new post. Thanks, Dianne

First, I want to thank you for all the work you put into your recipes. I know it takes a lot of time and effort. About this recipe, I input all the ingredients into the recipe calculator on my WW app and came up with a different point count. All of the ingredients add up to 52 tablespoons and using 52 as servings for the calculator's benefit 1 to 2 tablespoons come to 0 points. 3 to 7 tablespoons come out to 1 point. It's not a big difference but could be misleading to an avid point counter. (10 points divided by 52 T times 4 servings equals .77 points which is treated as 1 point.) Could you let me know if I miscalculated somewhere. Thanks again for all you do for us.
